Shah Rukh Khan’s latest movie, “Jawan,” is smashing records, raking in over Rs 700 crore worldwide. What’s even more surprising is that Deepika Padukone, the powerhouse Bollywood actress, didn’t charge a penny for her cameo in the film. Deepika and SRK have a history of successful collaborations, starting from “Om Shanti Om,” where Deepika made her debut alongside Shah Rukh. Their chemistry has always been a hit with audiences, evident in films like “Happy New Year,” “Pathan,” and “Chennai Express.”
In an interview with The Week, Deepika gushed about her bond with SRK, calling him her lucky charm. She revealed that she feels most comfortable and vulnerable around very few people, and SRK is one of them. Their relationship goes beyond work, marked by mutual respect and trust. When asked why she doesn’t charge for cameo roles, Deepika explained her heartfelt reasons. For her appearance in “83,” where she played Kapil Dev’s wife, and in Ranveer Singh’s “Cirkus,” she wanted to pay homage to the supportive wives behind successful men, inspired by her own mother’s sacrifices.
But when it comes to special appearances for SRK and Rohit Shetty, Deepika is always on board, showing her admiration and loyalty to their friendship. Despite her previous cameo outings not faring well, Deepika’s role as Vikram Rathore’s wife in “Jawan” received acclaim from both critics and audiences. Looking ahead, Deepika has exciting projects lined up. She will star alongside Hrithik Roshan in Anand’s “Fighter,” slated for release in January 2024, marking their first collaboration. Additionally, she’s set to dazzle in “Kalki 2898 AD” alongside Prabhas.
